Dhaka-- (UNB) - A three-year deal that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday signed with Coca-Cola will enable BCB to earn about Tk 1 crore a year. Striking the deal, Coca-Cola has become the official sponsor of Bangladesh national cricket team for three years. "BCB will get Tk 60,000 lakh in cash from the multinational company each year while Tk 30,000 lakh from other team-related activities of the company every year," BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdury told newsmen at a press briefing at a city hotel yesterday. But, he said, the long-term association between Coca-Cola and Bangladesh cricket will not directly benefit the players as they (players) have separates contracts with BCB. "Bangladesh national team players have lost their rights to represent other beverage companies in any form after the BCB's deal with the Coca-Cola," the BCB boss said. In response to a query, Saber said, "the players will only be able to use in their bats the logos of the recognised cricket bat-manufacturing companies as per ICC's new rule". "The agreement BCB has reached with the Coca-Cola is the best possible one and we are grateful to the company for its support to the country's cricket, which is still in its nascent stage," Saber observed. Coca-Cola, Saber said, has also made a commitment to title sponsor at least two tests and related one-day series in 2001 and 2002. Addressing the press conference, Coca-Cola country manager PK Chatterjee said they are only involving with Bangladesh national cricket team in leading events like international tournament and test series. "What could be more relevant and memorable for us in Bangladesh than supporting our national cricket team at this most remarkable period in our sporting history when our country has just been awarded test status for the sport," said a beaming Chatterjee. He said: Coca-Cola is now fully committed to be with the Bangladesh national cricket team all the way, for better or for worse. External Affairs Manager Lee Winfield, Business Operation Manager Khalid Raja, BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq and joint-secretary Dewan Shariful Arefin Tutul were present.
