Dhaka (UNB)- Test-babe Bangladesh’s captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy is confident about making a good debut playing their inaugural test match against India November 10-14 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

But the 26-year all-rounder, who will write his name on Friday in Bangladesh Cricket history as the first skipper in the test, would not say specifically what results he expect from their maiden test match.

“It will be a great result if we win the match while draw is a fine and it would be not bad if we go rolling on the match in day five,” said Durjoy.

He gave the views at a press briefing at city a hotel today (Wednesday), two days ahead of the day one in the country’s new journey on the highest level of the game.

Team manager Aziz Al Kayser confirmed that the captain and the coach would select the best eleven to try to put in their best in the making of their test history.

Coach Sarwar Imran, who also spoke in the briefing session, has a clear expectation from the historic test match: try to make a draw in the match against experienced India on the home soil.

Captain and coach both believed that the results would fully depend on pitch condition. Durjoy added: “The toss also is important thing for us”.

Durjoy said he is looking for his batsmen to perform well in the heretofore unfamiliar five-day match because he thinks Bangladeshi bowlers’ quality is not of international standards.

Coach Sarwar Imran also said that they would give emphasis on the batting line-up for the encounter.

Durjoy clarified that the five-day match is new for the guys and it would be a tough game for the boys, but that doesn’t mean that they were worried about it.

He observed his pace bowlers do not have enough fitness for operation in a long spell, so he would use the pacers in short spells but he is confident about spinners’ long-spell abilities.

Replying to a question the new Bangladesh captain, judged a specialist off-spinner in the squad, said: “We have normally some habits in three-day or four-day matches but this is not enough to perform well in the test match”.

“We have no special strategy against India in the match-- specially we are not thinking about any individual player--’ said Sarwar Imran.

Bangladesh showed miserable performance in South Africa tour prior to the test, but captain Durjoy believed the tour psychologically helped the players because they played in South Africa in a difficult condition.

“We will play against India in our familiar conditions, so I think there is no possibility of repeat of the South African performance,” said Durjoy.

Sarwar Imran also thinks the South African disastrous results couldn’t affect the test match because there was a totally different condition.

The press briefing was held just few minutes after the Bangladesh team entered Hotel Sheraton from BKSP residential camp in the run-up to the much-expected clash beginning Friday.

Captain Durjoy thinks preparation was well to take the challenge against India for playing a good four-day practice match.

But, he said, performance in the four-day match is not the sole point of view in selecting the final squad. “Two openers out of three failed to score in the practice match,” he added.
