Chief selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board resigns |

Dhaka--(UNB) - Chief selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board Tanveer Haider has resigned from the hot seat on health ground. Bangladesh Cricket Board sadly accepted his resignation in its meeting yesterday (Saturday), board general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq told newsmen after the meeting. With his resignation, the three-member selection committee has been dissolved automatically. Other two selectors were—- Raquibul Hasan and Tanjeeb Ahsan Saad. Tanveer Haider, also president of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) and vice-president of the BCB, sent his resignation letter to the Board on November 15. In the letter, the veteran cricket organiser, who always termed his job a thankless one, stated that being a heart patient he wanted to lead a tensionless life. Syed Ashraful Haq said Tanveer Haider has contributed a lot and done great job during his tenure. “We will discuss the matter to form a new committee in our next board meeting”, he said. The three-member selection committee led by Haider was formed after the previous board was dramatically dissolved reportedly for including Minhajul Abedin Nannu in the World Cup squad in last moment. The BCB meeting also discussed on the national coach and decided that general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq would talk to paralyzed South African coach Eddie Barlow to decide his fate. The meeting was told that Tk 1.5 crore profit was earned from the Dutch-Bangla inaugural test match. Near about Tk 1.9 crore was spent for the match. The BCB earned Tk 27,58,665 from ticket money. The BCB meeting also approved the highly configured structure of development coaching plan under which 12 more national coaches, 28 divisional and 64 district coaches will be appointed. The board formed a 10-member national grade one umpires’ panel for conducting international and first-class matches. Panel members are: SH Tutul, Mahbubullah, AU Shahin, M Ajgor, SR Chinu, SBC Shishir, SR Shami, Mahbubur Rahman, Jahangir Alam and M Reza. Two of them will be nominated for the ICC panel. The selection was made as per recommendation of the West Indies umpire Steve Bucknor, who conducted an umpires clinic in Dhaka after the inaugural test match, meeting sources said. |
