Khulna dismiss Sylhet Division for only 115 runs |

(Bangla2000)-- In Jessore, Khulna Division reached a commanding position after first day’s play dismissing last year runners-up Sylhet Division for only 115 runs in the first innings. Monjurul Islam Rana and Jamaluddin Babu played key role to destroy the opposition batting lineup. Rana, who was the main wrecker to demolish the top order, finished his figure with 25-12-34-5 while Babu picked up four wickets conceding 16 runs in his short 7.4-over spell. Pacer Monjurul Islam took another wicket for 27 runs. Parvez Ahmed and Taqrimul Hadi Kavi opened the Sylhet Division innings after deciding to bat first scoring 30 runs in the partnership. Parvez made 13 and his partner Kavi 16. After the dismissal of the pair, Sylhet Division failed to make any handsome partnership losing their wickets in regular interval and were bundled out for 115 runs in 64.4 overs. Number five batsman Alok Kapali was the top scorer for the last year runners-up team making 23 off 64 balls that included three hits across the rope. Later, a brilliant 71-run by Sajjadul Hasan Setu helped Khulna Division, which collected four points from previous two matches, to make 113 runs for 2 wickets in 34 overs at the day end. Opener Setu belted 12 boundaries facing 94 balls to make 71 runs before being bowled by national number one pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanta, the captain of Sylhet Division. Sohel Islam and Mohammad Salim were batting with 6 and 3 runs respectively. National spinner Mohammed Rafique dismissed the other opener Nahidul Haq Shaon (13) conceding 15 runs in 7 overs. At the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Hannan Sarker and SI Kiron made tons for Barisal Division to make respectable 277 runs for six wickets in stipulated 100 overs in the first innings against group B leader Dhaka Metropolitan team. In reply, newcomer Dhaka Metropolitan scored 46 runs for one wicket in 20 overs after bails were drawn for the first day with Mehrab Hossain Opee (21) and SH Shipon (1) batting. AU Hasan earned only success on the day for the Barisal Division team taking Mohammad Ashraful’s wicket who returned to the pavilion stumped by Babu making 21 off 45 balls. Earlier, Barisal captain Hannan Sarker hit a perfect century to prove his decision to bat first correct. Opener Hannan played 212 balls to score 100 runs hitting 11 boundaries and contributed highest 119-run in the fifth wicket stand with Kiron, who hammered unbeaten 105 runs off 184 balls with six hits to the fence. MR Babu added 26 off 68 deliveries without any boundary. SIS Saikat was the most successful bowler for Dhaka Metropolitan team capturing three wickets for 62 runs while Mohammad Ashraful bagged two wickets for 72 runs. |
