Barisal gets 33-run lead against Dhaka Metropolis |

Dhaka--(UNB) - A six-wicket haul by pacer AU Hasan helped Barisal Division to take a 33-run first innings lead against group B leaders Dhaka Metropolis on the second day of the three-day match of National Cricket League yesterday. Hasan demolished the top order to restrict Dhaka Metropolis at 244 for all in 88.4 overs in reply to 277 runs posted by Barisal in the first innings at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium. Barisal Division, which secured five points from previous two rounds, are poised to collect another four points as they took overall 94 runs lead making 61 for 2 in the second innings as stumps were drawn for the second day. Captain Hanann Sarker, who hit a century in the first innings, were at the crease with 39 runs along with Imran Ahmed (10). Promising spinner Mohammad Ashraful captured both the wickets for Dhaka Metropolis conceding 24 runs in 13 overs. Resuming with overnight score of 45 runs for one wicket, newcomers Dhaka Metropolis lost their first wicket of Mehrab Hossain Opee with scoreboard showing 91 for 2 in 37.2 overs. National opener Opee, yet to find his flow with the bat, was the first victim of Hasan on the second day, stumped by Babu after scoring 40 runs off 122 balls with five fours. One down SH Sipon scored team highest 58 runs off 147 balls that featured four fours and a six. Skipper Khaled Mahmud Sujon made 38 off 55 balls belting six fours and a six while MI Biplob contributed unbeaten 34 runs off 66 balls with four hits to the fence. Hasan finished with a bowling figure of 39-8-103-6 while MZ Moin claimed two wickets for 61 runs in 26.5 overs. At Jessore, Khulna Division maintained their commanding position after the second day’s play with a huge 121-run first innings lead against last year’s runners-up Sylhet Division. Resuming with overnight score of 113 for 2, Khulna Division made 236 for all in 95.1 overs in reply to Sylhet’s paltry 115 runs in the first innings. Number nine bat Monjurul Islam Rana, who played the key role in destroying the Sylhet’s first innings capturing five wickets, scored a defiant 27 not out off 64 balls with three boundaries. Earlier, on the first day on Saturday, a brilliant 71-run knock by Sajjadul Hasan Setu gave Khulna Division, which collected four points from previous two matches, a solid foundation. Mohammad Salim, batting at number 4, scored second team highest 31 runs off 108 deliveries with two hits across the rope. Spinner Imran Rahim Lalu was the most successful bowler for Sylhet Division claiming four wickets for 51 runs while national spinner Mohammed Rafique took two conceding 50 runs. Sylhet Division made 85 for 2 in 41 overs in their second innings with Kavi and Rajin Saleh batting on 30 and 21 runs respectively. Spinner Ahmed Kamal Colonel grabbed both the wickets conceding only 19 runs in 10 overs. |
