Dhaka Division following-on against Chittagong |

Dhaka--(UNB) - Holders Chittagong Division and league leaders Bangladesh Biman were in strong command over Dhaka and Rajshahi Divisions respectively on the second day of their three-day matches of the Green Delta National Cricket League yesterday (Sunday). At the Mymensingh stadium, Dhaka Division, forced to follow-on against Chittagong Division, will have to score another 85 runs in the remaining three wickets to avoid an innings defeat. Dhaka Division opened their innings last (Sunday) morning replying to Chittagong Division’s 344 for 7 in fixed 100 overs. Forced to make follow-on after scoring 132 runs for 9 (all out) in 46.4 overs in the first innings, they were again struggling in the second innings with 127 for 7 in 46 overs. One down Rashedul Haq (27), Biplob Sarkar (21) and Saiful Islam (20) were the major contributors in the first innings while one down Sajjad Kadir (45), opener Rashedul Haq (38) and Mazharul Haq (batting with 21) were the notable scorers in the second innings for Dhaka Division. Pakistani all rounder Shahed Mehmood caused the major damage to the Dhaka Division innings capturing 10 wickets in the two innings. He took five wickets for 37 runs in 10.4 overs in the 1st innings and also another five wickets for 59 runs in 20 overs, including six maidens, in the second innings. Sabbir Khan was the other successful bowler for Chittagong who took three wickets for 36 runs in 13 overs with one maiden in the 1st innings. Dhaka Division will resume their innings today (Monday), the third and last of the match. At the BKSP ground in Savar, national flag carrier Bangladesh Biman resumed their 1st innings last (Sunday) morning with huge overnight total of 379 for 5 in 92 overs and made 422 for all in 99.4 overs. Former national cricketer Hasanuzzaman Jhoru, who was batting with 92 runs on Saturday, hammered a century making 104 off 166 balls in 210 minutes with eleven fours and a six before caught by M Kalim off a Nuruzzaman delivery. Ziaur Rashid, batting with overnight 13 runs, scored 22 runs in 43 deliveries. Nuruzzaman of Rajshahi Division, who captured two wickets on Saturday, bowled devastatingly to finish with six wickets for 135 runs in 37.4 overs, including four maidens while Mustadir Litu took two for 94 in 29 overs with three maidens. Replying to the massive Biman total, Rajshahi closed their 1st innings making 288 for all in 76.2 overs. One down Anisur Rahman scored team highest 70 runs off 108 balls in 145 minutes with five fours and four sixes while opener Rafiqul Islam made 67 off 107 deliveries in 123 minutes with 10 boundaries. Rafiqul of Biman captured four wickets conceding 111 runs in 29 overs that featured three maidens. Biman’s Pakistani cricketer Imran Farhat, who hit a polished 97 runs, took three wickets for 59 runs in 14.2 overs while Saifullah Khan Jem claimed two wickets for 39 runs in 10 overs. League leaders Bangladesh Biman, which are almost assured of four points because of the first innings lead, will open their second innings today (Monday). |
