Dhaka--(UNB) - Holders Chittagong Division earned a second straight-win outplaying Dhaka Division by innings and 61 runs in a three-day match of the Green Delta National Cricket League at Mymensingh Stadium yesterday.


Chittagong gained full six points after the day’s victory to raise their tally to 14 points to follow league leader Bangladesh Biman, which snatched four points from Rajshahi Division in the third round to maintain their top slot in group A with 16 points.


Dhaka Division continued their lackluster performance in the three-day matches suffering consecutive third straight defeats after swallowing huge innings and 61-run defeat against defending champions.


Dhaka Division, forced to make a follow-on after scoring 132 runs for 9 (all out) in 46.4 overs in the first innings replying to Chittagong Division’s 344 for 7, needed to score another 85 runs on the last day to avoid an innings defeat.


But they added only 24 runs on the third day to raise their total to 151 runs for 9 (all out) in 53.4 overs in the second innings with resuming overnight score of 127 for 7 in 46 overs.


Number six batsman Mazharul Haq, who remained unbeaten with 21 after the second day’s bails drawn, made 37 runs not out facing 70 balls, including four boundaries.


Spinner Sabbir Khan, who took three wickets for 36 runs in 13 overs in the 1st innings, was the successful bowler on the day finishing his figure with 8.4-2-18-3.


Meanwhile, Pakistani all rounder Shahed Mehmood caused the major damage to the Dhaka Division capturing 10 wickets in the two innings.


Dhaka Division collected four points from previous two one-day matches.


At the BKSP ground in Savar, Bangladesh Biman maintained their solo lead snatching four points from Rajshahi Division by virtue of huge 134 runs of first innings lead.


Newcomer national airlines’ team Biman increased their tally to 16 points to keep their solo lead in group-A.


Biman made a huge 320-run winning target for the opposition on the last day declaring their second innings with 185 runs for four wickets in 42 overs.


But the match ended in draw when Rajshahi Division scored 236 runs for 8 wickets in 49 overs riding on a brilliant 124-run of opener Rafiqul Islam, who belted nine fours and a six facing 135 deliveries.


One down Anisur Rahman, who scored team highest 70 runs off 108 balls in the first innings, was the another notable scorer for Rajshahi Division in the second innings with 60 runs off 61 balls, featuring seven fours and a six.


Rafiqul claimed two wickets for 40 runs while Saifullah Khan Jem, Aminul Islam and Ziaur Rashid took one wicket each.


Earlier, recent past national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul, who made a blitzkrieg ton against India in the inaugural test, hammered an unbeaten scintillating 74 runs off 84 balls that featured 12 boundaries for Biman.


Opener Javed Omar Belim Gulla contributed 59 runs off 98 balls with nine hits across the rope while his partner Pakistani Imran Farhat added 21 off 27 deliveries.


Sanwar Hossain made unbeaten 25 runs off 37 balls with two hits to the fence.


Imran Parvez captured two wickets for 47 runs while Alamgir Kabir and Aminul Islam Bhola took one wicket each.


Meanwhile, Bangladesh Biman made mammoth 422 for all in 99.4 overs in the first innings and in reply Rajshahi Division closed their 1st innings making 288 for all in 76.2 overs.
