Dhaka-- (UNB)- Dhaka Metropolis and Khulna Division also won the limited-over matches against their opponents to jointly finish top after first round in the final phase of the Green Delta National Cricket League today (Saturday). With double success in the first round, Dhaka Metropolis and Khulna Division bagged 34 points each while losing sides Bangladesh Biman and Chittagong Division still on 32 and 30 points respectively. Dhaka Metropolis, who overpowered Bangladesh Biman in the four-day match with a remarkable victory, again downed the national flag career team in the one-day match crushing them by 98 runs at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium. Former national skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul’s team were dismissed for only 93 runs in 21.2 overs in reply to Dhaka Metropolis’s 191 runs to suffer a humiliating defeat in the day’s limited-over match. Occasional bowler Mehrab Hossain Opee was the most successful bowler for Dhaka Metropolis claiming three wickets for 11 runs in 5.2 overs while Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Ashique took two wickets each for 9 and 21 runs respectively. Pakistani Manzoor Akhter was the top scorer for Biman making 20 runs off 25 deliveries while Javed Omar Belim Gulla added 14 off 23 balls. Aminul Islam Bulbul, who made a magnificent century in the four-day match, returned to the pavilion with 12 runs bowled out by Mehrab Hossain Opee. One down Mohammad Sharif, who looked quite sound at the crease, unfortunately fell victim of run out (12) when a drive of Bulbul broke the stumps after touching bowler Rahul’s hand. Earlier, a run-a-ball 40-run knock by MI Biplob guided Dhaka Metropolis to score 191 runs for all in the fixed 42 overs after batting first. The match was fixed at 42 overs due to heavy fog in the morning. One down Biplob belted five boundaries and hit an over boundary to become man of the match for the one-day match. Mehrab Hossain Opee was adjudged man of the match for four-day match. Skipper Khaled Mahmud Sujon was another notable scorer making 30 runs off 52 balls that featured three fours while number nine batsman MR Mukul contributed 28 off 43 balls with three fours. Veteran pacer Jahangir Alam Talukdar Dulu hauled four top order batsmen conceding 34 runs in 9 overs while Habibul Bashar Sumon and Mohammad Sharif captured two wickets each.
