Dhaka-- (UNB) - Two Bangladeshi spinners Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Mohammad Rafique have been reported by ICC match officials for suspect bowling action during recent international fixtures. Shahid Afridi, the Pakistani leg spinner, was also reported by International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Barry Jarmain during the one-day international series between Pakistan and England end of October. The bowling actions of Bangladesh captain and off spinner Durjoy and slow left arm Rafique were questioned by umpires Steve Bucknor and David Shepherd during the country’s inaugural Test against India in Dhaka in November. The three cricketers are now undergoing a six-week consultation with bowling experts appointed by their respective cricket board. At the end of this period in mid-February, the cricket boards will circulate a report among the players, the ICC and the international panel of referees and umpires. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formed a 3-member consultation panel with Tanjib Ahsan Saad, Jalal Younus and Akhteruddin Shahin, the newsmen was told yesterday (Wednesday) by BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq. Haq also informed that they would try to contact legendary spinner and former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi and another Indian spinner to consult in the matter. Video tapes showing actions of the bowlers in question have been forwarded to the ICC, the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. These will be used to analyse and review the bowling action of the three cricketers. Each of the reports is being dealt with under the new three-stage reporting and review process introduced by the ICC in the beginning of January. Although this process was not technically in place at the time of reporting, the decision recognises the fact that the new, improved process was imminent. All the three can continue to play international cricket during the six week review period, although in these particular cases neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh are involved in any series until Pakistan visits New Zealand for five ODI and three test matches, beginning February 17. |
