Dhaka, Jan 12 (UNB) - Riding on a brilliant unbeaten 121 runs by Pakistani Manzoor Akhter, Bangladesh Biman are now in driving seat against Khulna Division after the second day of the four-day National Cricket League at BKSP today (Friday). The national flag career team, Biman scored 308 runs for 5 wickets in 103 overs at stumps in reply to Khulna Division’s 229 for all in 85.1 overs in the first innings. Manzoor Akhter and Sanwar Hossain helped title aspirants Biman to post a commanding total with an unconquered 138 runs in the six wicket stand. Pakistani all rounder Manzoor Akhter was batting with 121 runs facing 229 balls that featured 14 fours while his partner, Sanwar Hossain, remained unbeaten on 65 off 137 deliveries with four boundaries. Earlier, Manzoor Akhter repaired the early damage of Biman with a 95 runs association with Ziaur Rashid Rupom in the fifth wicket stand. Rupom scored 47 runs off 111 balls that included four boundaries. One down Habibul Bashar Sumon made 38 off 76 balls with seven fours while captain and opener Faruque Ahmed added 21 runs off 26 balls with three fours. Pacer Manjurul Islam was the most successful bowler for Khulna taking two wickets for 38 runs while Sohel Islam and Al Amin took one wicket each. Resuming with overnight score of 225 for 6, Khulna Division lower order batsmen showed a devastating performance as four wickets fell for only four runs. Promising pacer Mohammad Sharif, who claimed four wickets on the first day, finished his figure with 25-5-71-5 as the most successful bowler for Biman while Manzoor Akhter and Shariful Hossain Plabon took two wickets each.
