Biman draws match despite record first innings |

Dhaka--(UNB) – Bangladesh Biman’s record first innings total went in vain as it managed 4 points against Dhaka Metropolis after the four-day match of the Green Delta National Cricket League ended in a draw at BKSP yesterday. With the day’s outcome, title contender Biman increased their tally to 42 points and is now sharing the top slot with holders Chittagong Division who outclassed Khulna Division by 8 wickets in another match. Dhaka Metropolis and Khulna Division are still on 36 points. At BKSP, Dhaka Metropolis started their second innings with 326 runs deficit in the first innings that forced the team to follow-on, but its opener Mehrab Hossain Opee scored a century dashing Biman’s hope to earn outright victory. Opee and Mohammad Ashraful made solid start for Dhaka Metropolis in the second innings associating 162 runs in the opening stand and helped the team make 222 runs for 3 wickets when bails were drawn for the final day. The only century maker for Bangladesh in the one-day international, Opee, scored 133 runs off 181 balls that included 20 boundaries and one over boundary while promising Ashraful added 53 runs off 121 balls with six fours. The national airlines team captain Faruque Ahmed took two wickets for 20 runs while Plabon captured one for 63. Earlier, Dhaka Metropolis were bundled out for 224 runs in their first innings resuming their overnight score of 216 for 9 wickets. Biman’s Pakistani spinner Amir Wasim took another wicket on the day to finish his bowling figure 4/53. Dhaka Metro 2nd Innings- 222/3 in 61 overs (Ashraful 53, Opee 133, Halim Shah 22, extras 0, Faruque 2/20. At the Comilla Stadium, holders Chittagong Division yesterday played only 7.4 overs for scoring required 39 runs to earn the deserving victory against Khulna Division on the last day with eight wickets in hand. Chittagong Division reached the target of 145 runs losing 2 wickets in 28.4 overs resuming the overnight score of 106 for 2 in 21 overs. Ehsanul Haq Seezan, who resumed with 35 runs, made unbeaten 52 runs off 60 balls that included five fours and two sixes while his partner Golam Mortuza remained not out with 18 runs.
