Dhaka-- (UNB) – A brilliant 157-run knock by Mohammad Ashraful enabled Dhaka Metropolis to score an imposing 340 for 4 against holders Chittagong Division at stumps on the first day of the four-day National Cricket League yesterday. One down Al-Shahriar Rokon was also on the threshold of a century as the right-handed batsman was batting with 90 runs and Halim Shah remained not out on 6 when bails were drawn for the day at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Winning the toss, Chittagong captain Minhajul Abedin Nannu decided to field first in the crucial title- deciding last round match of the national cricket league. Young Ashraful and his illustrious partner, national opener Mehrab Hossain Opee, gave a flying start to newcomers Dhaka Metropolis contributing 131 runs in the opening stand. Right-handed Ashraful, who scored a sensational ton against the visiting boys from Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy of Australia in the last limited-over match, belted 21 boundaries for his 157 runs off 216 balls before bowled by pacer Shafiuddin Ahmed. Test cap Opee made 53 off 119 deliveries with nine hits across the rope before caught by Anisur off Enamul Haq Moni.
