Dhaka-- (UNB – Title aspirant Bangladesh Biman were poised for a first innings lead making 215 for 4 against Khulna Division’s total 289 all out on the second day of a four-day National Cricket League match at Jessore Shams-ul-Huda Stadium yesterday (Sunday).


The Khulna team resumed their first innings this morning with an overnight total of 262 for eight in 97 overs and was forced to close their innings adding only 17 runs in 10 overs.


Night watch batsman Jamaluddin Babu, who was batting with 42 runs, remained not out with 46 runs off 165 balls including four fours and a six while another batsman Al-Amin, who was in crease with nine runs, was back to the pavilion with 16 runs.


Amir Wasim and Anwar Hossain Monir took the rest two wickets of Khulna to finish 23-6-53-3 and 20-7-45-2 respectively.


Replying to a moderate total, joint league leader Biman made a good start as Javed Omar Balim Gullu and skipper Faruque Ahmed scored 71 runs in the opening stand.


National opener Gullu made 23 runs in 94 balls with three hits to the fence while Faruque scored 47 runs off 105 deliveries featuring eight boundaries.


Former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul contributed 31 runs playing 83 balls hitting four fours while another former national cricketer Sanwar Hossain returned to the dressing room with 7 runs in 26.


One down national star Habibul Bashar Sumon was batting with 70 runs off 143 balls featuring eight fours while number six bat Hasanuzzaman was in the crease with 28 runs in 61 balls that saw five fours.


Promising Manzarul Islam Rana of Khulna grabbed two wickets for 51 runs in 21 overs with five maidens while Manjurul Islam and Jamaluddin Babu took one wicket each giving away 26 and 56 runs respectively.


The national flag carrier Biman will resume batting on the third day today (Monday).
