Sydney, (internet report): Two young targets of a Shane Warne outburst will meet their foe at the second Test in New Zealand this week.
Shannon Nightingale, who Warne allegedly called "c...he allegedly called whom he allegedly called "f...face", want to meet the Australian leg-spinner in Wellington.
Warne became the highest wicket-taker in Australian cricket in the first Test against NZ in Auckland last week, snaring his 356th test wicket, passing fast-bowling legend Dennis Lillee.
He issued a public invitation to the 15-year-old to meet him following a public outcry over his alleged verbal abuse of them during a one-day match last month.
Shannon, father Steven and Shnnon's best mate, Daniel, have been vilified since the incident.
Some media commentators have accused the boys of setting up Warne and selling their story.
"People think the boys provoked Warne to make a lot of money," Steven Nightingale said.
"It's just not true. We haven't received one cent for the pictures. What Warne did was wrong. But it was an overreaction at the time. The Australian manager, Steve Bernard, has asked us to ring him when the team arrives in town and we'll do that."
The incident occurred after Daniel took a picture of Warne smoking while playing cards with teammates in the players' area.
The cricketer, who last year had a highly publicised $200,000 deal to give up smoking, demanded that film afterwards.
When rain cut the one-day international short, Warne sought out the boy. Steven Nightingale said the cricketer approached Daniel and some friends and asked for the camera. The boy told him it has been sent home with other friends and Warne asked what h planned to do with the film. Daniel said nothing," Nightingale said. "My son, Shannon, started laughing at, c...head?."
"He then called the other, f...face." I was unaware of what was happening at this time as it only involved the boys.
Police later had Warne return the bag.
