Inzamam reached 121 not out - his first century against India and seventh in 212 one-day internationals in a hefty total of 272-3.
India stuttered early against the Waqar-led Pakistan attack and lost premier batsmen Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar with only 20 runs on the board. The wickets sparked an Indian collapse to 174 for nine off the 50 overs.
Waqar, who worked up a lively pace, took five for 31.
Inzamam, blasted nine fours and five sixes in his 113-ball innings. He was involved in a 66-run third wicket stand with Younis Khan (44) then a record unbroken partnership of 151 in 132 balls with Yousuf Youhana (56 not out).
Pakistan's previous best fourth wicket one-day effort against India was 111 by Imran Khan and Javed Miandad in 1992.
The victory put Pakistan level with India on one triumph each in three matches.
South Africa, who meet India on Monday, have won both their games.
