LONDON, APR 13  (AP) - Zimbabwe's national cricket team will proceed with its upcoming tour of England despite political unrest in the southern African country.

Zimbabwe, whose one-day side played well at last summer's World Cup before bowing out one match shy of the semifinals, will play its first match in two weeks at Southampton against English county team Hampshire.

The tour features Tests against England at Lord's and Trent Bridge in Nottingham before a one-day triangular tournament which includes the West Indies.

Zimbabwe is currently playing in a triangular tournament in the Caribbean.

Zimbabwe, a former British colony, is in the throes of political

crisis with black squatters challenging the rights of descendants of British settlers to own land.

The problems have strained relations between Zimbabwe and Britain, with some of the white farmers fleeing in search of safety.

"In light of the current political situation in Zimbabwe we have discussed the cricket team's forthcoming tour to England with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Zimbabwe Cricket Union,"

Simon Pack, the international teams director for the England and Wales Cricket Board, said Thursday. "All parties are agreed that the tour can go ahead as planned."
