18, 2000 New Delhi, April 16 : Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Sunday said the Government had no plans to legalise betting in cricket, a day after the Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said he would consider such a move."I have read some reports on cricket betting. The Government has no proposal to legalise betting. We are all for eliminating this menace," Vajpayee told a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party here. Dhindsa had said on Saturday that "The Sports Ministry would also see if betting can be made legal in cricket like in some other sports to minimise the impact of mischief-makers." Dhindsa said he has called a meeting of India's cricket officials and players on April 27 for strategies to cleanse the game. Bangla2000 News |
