30, 2000 Dhaka,
Apr 29 (UNB) – A stormy innings by Selim Elahi guided Overseas Eleven to
a comfortable 5-wicket victory over CCDM Eleven in an exhibition cricket
match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today (Saturday). The
Pakistani, who plays for Kalabagan KC in the league, hammered 69 runs in
39 balls that helped his side to easily reach the target making 184 for
five with three overs to spare in the curtailed 38-overs-a-side match. Left-arm
spinner Mohammed Hossain, another Pakistani who play for Abahani Limited,
was adjudged man of the match to receive Tk 3,000 for his five-wicket haul
conceding 19 runs in his continuous seven overs spell. The
exhibition match between Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM)
Eleven with national players and the Overseas Eleven comprising foreign
cricketers playing in the Dhaka league was arranged marking the centenary
celebration of Wari Club. Akram
Khan, the captain of the CCDM XI, won the toss and decided to bat first in
the 40-overs-a-side match. Later, two overs were curtailed due to 20
minutes’ interruption for rain. CCDM
Eleven scored respectable 182 runs for nine wickets in 38 overs riding on
a dour knock of opener Shahriar Hossain Bidyut. The
right-hand batsman made 66 facing 98 balls that included three fours and
two sixes. He hit two sixes, one over the mid-wicket and another straight,
against spinner Manzoor Akhter in the same over before being bowled by
Mohammed Hossain. His
opening partner Naimur Rahman Durjoy scored a run a ball 12 with one
boundary before caught at third man by Imran off Manzoor Elahi. One
down Habibul Bashar scored second team highest 37 runs off 50 balls that
featured four boundaries before caught at slip by Salim off Imran. Khaled
Mahmud Sujon played another notable innings off 21 runs off 19 balls with
three hits across the rope. The dashing batsman was caught at long-on by
Rehan Rafique off Mohammed Hossain. Former
national skipper Akram Khan returned to the pavilion scoring only one run,
while his successor Aminul Islam Bulbul maintained poor batting form
making only 9 runs. Chasing
the formidable total, Overseas Eleven reached the target making 184 losing
five wickets in 35 overs capitalising on a 92-run second wicket
partnership between Selim Elahi and Imran Farhan. Pacer
Hasibul Hossain Shanta made the breakthrough in the very first over
dismissing Mohammed Hossain for duck. But
the second partnership turned the match one sided. Specially, right-handed
Selim Elahi punished the local bowlers belting ten boundaries and one over
boundary over the long-on off Khaled Mahmud Sujon. The discarded Pakistani batsman was dropped twice in the same over off Naimur Rahman Durjoy. Substitute fielder Safiuddin Ahmed Babu first dropped an easy catch at long-off when Selim Elahi was 43 while Enamul Haq Moni dropped him at long on allowing to reach his fifty mark. One
down Imran Farhan scored 39 runs off 52 balls with six hits to the fence
while captain Tareq Mahmood added 30 runs off 57 balls with three fours. Enamul
