Australian Shane Warne re-wrote the record books on March 15, 2000 at Auckland, New Zealand when he became the highest wicket-taker for his country. He had Kiwi tail-ender Paul Wiseman caught by wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist as Australia recorded it's eighth consecutive Test match win to defeat the home side by 62 run.
In all 10 bowlers have had the distinction of holding the Australian record for the maximum Test wickets at various stages in Test history. Paceman Frederick Spofforth was the first Australian bowler to take 50 wickets in 1882-83.
He held the record or 60 wickets until 1884 when off-spinner George Palmer bettered it by taking 63 wickets. Spofforth soon regained the record in 1884-85 with 70 wickets. he finally pushed his tally to 94 wickets when he ended his Test career in 1886-87. he had the record for 10 years until 1894-95, when fast bowler Charlie Turner surpassed this tally.
Since then in the last 105 years, seven other bowler (including Warne) have held the Australian record for the highest wicket aggregate.
*Spofforth lost his record to Palmer for a brief period, before regaining it.
