International Cricket Council president Jagmohan Dalmiya and future presidents will not be involved in financial negotiations on the ICC's behalf. The decision, aimed at keeping the presidential office above scandal, was taken at last week's ICC two-day emergency meeting called to discuss match-fixing allegations, Dalmiya said on Sunday. Dalmiya, back in India, told reporters: "Since baseless allegations were aired against the ICC president, the executive board quite rightly thought that the position of the president and the president-elect must be protected from such allegations and that financial negotiations should be conducted by the chairman of the Finance and Marketing Committee and the ICC chief executive." Last month, a financial adviser hired by Indian television to investigate the sale of sports rights made allegations about Dalmiya's position as sole negotiator for the ICC in a 1998 tournament in Dhaka. But ICC chief executive David Richards denied the claims at the opening of the emergency meeting, saying the media rights had been sold by a formal process and Dalmiya had not been involved. Dalmiya told a news conference on Sunday he continued to be an ex-officio member of the Finance and Marketing Committee and a member of the consultative group formed by the ICC to decide on commercial rights surrounding ICC events. Dalmiya had called the conference to deny and "condemn" a report in a British newspaper saying he had been ousted from the Finance and Marketing Committee by the executive board.
