Dhaka,
May 10 (UNB)- Kalabagan KC kept their title hope alive in the Janakantha
Premier Division Cricket League beating Mohammedan SC at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium today (Wednesday).
Due
to bad light, the day’s match result was decided by better run in 43
overs. Kalabagan KC scored 196 runs for four wickets while Mohammedan SC
made 180 runs also for four in 43 overs.
The
match was stopped when Kalabagan KC was in commanding position requiring
30 more runs from seven overs with six wickets in hand chasing
Mohammedan’s 225 runs for nine wickets. Mushfiq
Babu played a scintillating unbeaten knock of 74 runs off 93 balls with
three fours to bring the match result in favour of his side while
Pakistani Tareq Mahmood remained unbeaten with 35 runs off 54 balls. After
the day’s success, Kalabagan KC securing 24 points from 14 encounters
are just two points behind league leader Abahani Limited who secured 26
points from same number of matches. The
two teams will face each other in their last super league match on May 12
although Abahani is in advantageous position to clinch the title with far
better run rate against their rival. If
Kalabagan KC wins the match, their points will be equal to Abahani and
then the championship will be decided by run rate. In
the day’s match, Kalabagan KC fell into a big trouble losing three early
wickets at 48 runs, but Mushfiq Babu played the anchor role to bring the
match in favour for his side. Specially
the leg before dismissal of Pakistani dashing batsman Selim Elahi, who
batted at number three, forced Kalabagan KC in back foot to chasing the
over 200 runs total. But
right-handed Babu associated 56 runs in the fourth wicket stand with Rajin
Saleh to recover the early damage. Rajin Saleh, who made 30 runs off 47
balls, fell victim of run out by a direct throw of Hannan Sarker from
mid-off. The
two unbeaten batsmen Babu and Tareq contributed 92 runs before the match
stopped due to bad light 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. Kalabagan’s
opener Harunur Rahid Liton made 25 runs off 28 balls before being caught
at cover by Neeyamur Rashid Rahul off left-arm pacer Manjurul Islam Monju. Medium
pacer Dofin was the most successful bowler for Mohammedan SC claiming two
wickets for 35 runs in 9 overs while Monju took one for 36 runs. Earlier,
Mohammedan Sporting Club scored respectable 225 runs for nine wickets in
stipulated 50 overs riding on a 78-run knock by Nasirul Alam Nahid. Number
four batsman Nahid made 81-run partnership in the third wickets stand with
his skipper Ather Ali Khan who added 47 runs off 59 balls before being
bowled by Ripon. Nahid,
who hit three fours and two sixes facing 113 balls, returned to the
pavilion when Selim Elahi took a running catch at short third man area
from gully off Ripon. Sri
Lankan Samarawera was the other notable scorer with a run-a-ball 28
hitting three across the rope. Spinner
Ripon picked up four wickets conceding 43 runs in 10 overs while pacer
Saiful Islam and Bikas Ranjan Das took two wickets each for 29 and 46 runs
respectively.
