LEEDS, England, MAY 28 (AP) - Zimbabwe hit back from being bowled out for 68 by Yorkshire by beating the county by 32 runs at Headingley on Saturday with paceman Pommie Mbangwa collecting match figures of 10 for 53.
Yorkshire was left with a modest victory target of 180 after its bowling onslaught on Friday but Mbangwa took four for 39 and left armeer Bryan Strang took four for 41 in a great Zimbabwe fightback.
The Zimbabwe bowlers, who face England in the second test at Trent Bridge on Thursday, had Yorkshire reeling at 13 for four before they were held up by an unbeaten 66 by Michael Lumb and 22 by Gary Fellows.
After bowling Yorkshire out for 148, the Zimbabweans now will be in better spirits to come back from a disastrous innings and 209 loss to England at Lord's.
Zimbabwe manager Dan Stannard said, however, there was no chance of their calling up fresh players for the second test:
"We had a chat with the players before play began this morning, and I told them that there was no question of any players being flown in for the second test," he said.
"The side will be selected from the squad we have already named, and I stressed I wanted them to do their best to recapture their best form and above all enjoy their cricket.
"I think that gave all of them a lift, and they responded brilliantly to claim this victory." |
