Dhaka, May 30 - Injured Indian wicketkeeper Saab Karim has been ruled out to the Pepsi Asia cup.
Karim was rushed to a local hospital yesterday afternoon after a rising delivery from leg spinner Anil Kumble struck him between his right eye and fore head during his team’s tournament opener against Bangladesh.
After being examined by an eye specialist, Karim was taken to Popular diagnostic Centre where he had CT scan. He was then shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Indian manager Samiran Chakravarty informed re-porters that Karim might return home today for further treatment. The Indians are also expecting a replacement for Karim to arrive in Dhaka shortly.
Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, a member of Bangladesh Cricket Board ( BCB ) and chairman of the medical sub- committee, was the first to attended Karim and accompanied him to the hospital. The doctor however was unable to give any insight in to Karim’s condition.
We can not say anything unless we get the CT scan report . There is some external bleeding. However we are not sure whether there is any internal bleeding. That can be determined once we get the CT scan report Dr, Mahfuz said.
Indian coach Kapil dev was understandably very concerned about his wicketkeeper.
The area where the bal struck him is badly bruised. I do not have full reports on his state but as understand, he will be kept under observation at the hospital tonight “ said kapil.
