Shoaib Akhtar released by Notts |

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been released from his contract by Notts due to a potentially career threatening stress fracture. Coach Clive Rice and the Notts committee say they will stand by Shoaib, but will plan for the rest of the season on the assumption that he will not be able to play for the county this year. It is believed it could be at least a month before he is fit again.
Rated as the fastest bowler in the world, the 'Rawalpindi Express' thrilled audiences at the 1999 World Cup, but his 'unorthodox' action was the subject of a written report by an Australian umpire during early November 1999. The matter was referred to an ICC committee, who banned him - but president Jagmohan Dalmiya overruled the decision. In his brief Test career he has taken 45 wickets at an average of 35.84, and 66 at 21.31 in One-day Internationals. |
