Dhaka, June 5 (UNB) – Ratul Ghosh, a reporter of Calcutta-based “Dainik Bartoman” is currently being questioned by police in the city for publishing a controversial report on the ongoing Pepsi Asia Cup cricket.
The Bengali newspaper carried a report by Ratul Ghosh in its June 1 edition under the heading “India fails to make Bangladesh cross 250 run mark.”
In his report, Ghosh stated that the normal course of the Bangladesh/India match of May 30 was altered. There was evidence of match fixing and the Indian team as a whole had taken responsibility to ensure that Bangladesh crossed the 250 run mark, the report said.
Bangladesh Cricket Board formally lodged protest to the newspaper at “this untrue, imaginary and motivated report” and requested “Dainak Bartoman” to publish the protest and carry an apology. This request was, however, not complied with, the BCB said.
“Given the serious nature of claims of match fixing and the refusal of ”Dainak Bartoman” to withdraw the report, the BCB reported the matter to Motijheel Police Station to “investigate fully and exhaustively” the statements and claims contained in the report filed by Ghosh. |
