Dhaka
(UNB) – Mohd Ali Ashan Babu, a former cricketer-cum-official of
Bangladesh Biman, has been selected for the much talked about and most
powerful post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) General Manager, earlier
termed as chief executive officer.
Officials
said this is the first step of restructuring the BCB set-up to make it
suitable for a test playing nation. The Board will be reconstituted like
other world elite cricket bodies after its annual general meeting next
September. The
newly selected General Manager, Babu (40), will act as full-time official
of BCB from next August to look after all BCB activities including finance
and administration.
The
decision was taken at a marathon meeting of BCB executive committee at the
board office here yesterday (Saturday) with its President and Deputy
Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the chair. The
three-and-a-half-hour meeting, attended by 23 EC members out of 32, also
nominated four local cricket officials for different committees of the
International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of world cricket. BCB’s
most dynamic president Saber Hossain Chowdhury has been selected to
represent Bangladesh in the executive committee of the ICC while BCB
General Secretary Syed Ashraful Haq named as a member of the ICC Cricket
Management Committee. Former
national skipper Raquibul Hasan and former national cricketer Tanjeeb
Ahsan Saad have been selected as member of ICC Cricket Committee for
playing and Cricket Committee for Illegal ball delivery respectively. The
BCB meeting also decided to introduce women’s cricket in the country
very soon under the supervision of cricket board and to bring separate
foreign coaches for the national Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19
teams.
BCB
joint Secretary Mahmudul Haq Manu disclosed the decision to UNB after the
BCB meeting this (Saturday) afternoon. The
board will sign an agreement with selected 18 national cricketers very
soon complying with long time demand of the cricketers. They
are : Aminul Islam Bulbul, Akram Khan, Enamul Haq Moni, Naimur Rahman
Durjoy, Khaled Mashud Pilot, Shahriar Hossain
Biddyut, Javed Oman Balim Gullu, Habibul Basher Sumon, Hasibul
Hossain Shanta, Al Shahriar Rokon, Mushfiq Babu, Manjurul Islam, Bikash
Ranjan Das, Fahim Muntasir Summit, Rajin Saleh, Sabbir Khan, Nasirul Haq
Nahid and Ehsanul Haq Sejan. The
meeting also approved the calendar of the domestic cricket. The
inter-club player transfer will be held in the first week of October and
the season curtain raiser meet Damal-Summer Cricket tournament will start
on October 21. The
50-over-a-side metropolis premier division cricket league will start on
November 18 and national league February 3. The
first phase of the national league will be three-day affairs while the
second round of four-day match, followed by a one-day match.
