Dhaka (UNB) - Bangladesh cricket team will open their South Africa tour with a four-day first class match against provincial team Griqualand West on October 12 in Kimberley.

After participating in the ICC Knockout Tournament in Kenya, the national team will fly to South Africa and play three one-day matches against South Africa “A” beside the four-day match.

The first ODI will be a day-night match on October 18 at Bloemfontein while the next two matches will be held on October 21 in Pietermaritzburg and October 22 in Durban.

The United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) invited Bangladesh in the tour in order to assist the newest test-playing country with their progress in international cricket.

According to a joint statement by the BCB and UCBSA, Dr Ali Bacher, the Managing Director of UCBSA, said this is part of the UCBSA’s commitment to help BCB with the development of the game.

As part of a cooperation agreement between the two boards, UCBSA will send its Director of Playing Affairs and Umpiring, Brian Basson, to Bangladesh for conducting courses for Bangladesh umpires.

Two South African development officers will also spend a week in Bangladesh to prepare ground for the South African development programme in order to help stimulate the growth of cricket in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Saber Hossain Chowdhury said the assistance of South Africa would be of much value to Bangladesh.
