NEW DELHI (AP) - India's cricket coach Kapil Dev, one of the suspects in a match-fixing scandal, resigned from his post on Tuesday.
"I have sent my resignation letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India," United News of India news agency quoted Dev as saying in New Delhi.
Dev's resignation came less than two weeks after three Indian cricketers, who have been questioned by federal investigators in the scandal, were dropped from the Indian squad. The players were former captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja and Nikhil Chopra.
Dev was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation, India's FBI, last week.
Manoj Prabhakar, a former test all-rounder, alleged that Dev had offered him 2.5 million rupees (dlrs 57,340) as a bribe to underplay during a 1994 match against Pakistan, the official said.
Dev has denied the accusation. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India asked Dev to continue in his position and prepare the Indian team for the International Cricket Council Knockout Trophy one-day tournament to be played in Nairobi next month.
But Dev decided to step down as the team's coach.
