Dhaka (UNB)- The national cricket team’s South Africa tour was not called off as the BCB is still hopeful of getting visa from Kenya while participating in the ICC Knockout Tournament. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board will need special order from the government to send huge money for the national squad to confirm the two-week tour scheduled to begin on October 10. “We don’t want to call off the tour and the situation is now better to make the tour”, BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq told reporters at the BCB office yesterday (Wednesday). He, however, added that his comment was not rightly quoted in one newspaper, which said the tour was called off. Uncertainty arose when BCB failed to collect visa from South African Embassy in New Delhi but it is now almost certain that they will get visa from Nairobi. Bangladesh team will require about 70,000 dollars for the tour because they will be touring in South Africa with own expenses. After their participation in the ICC Knockout Tournament, Bangladesh will play a four-day match against a provincial team and three limited over matches against South Africa A team. The test babes will play against host Kenya in a practice match tomorrow (Thursday) and another against Sri Lanka on October 1 prior their battle with England in the ICC Knockout Tournament. |
