11, 2000 BANJUL, Gambia, APR 10 (AP) - Bouchaib Lembarki scored the only goal of the game to lead Morocco over host Gambia 1-0 in the first round of African qualifying games for the 2002 World Cup. Lembarki netted the ball in the 18th minute of the second half at Independence stadium Sunday, which was filled to capacity with about 30,000 people. The more experienced Moroccan side dominated play against Gambia, which has never made it beyond the first round of World Cup qualifying play. Morocco has made it to the finals four times. The two sides meet for the second leg of their competition on April 23. |
