SAO PAULO, APR 26 (AP) - Coach Wanderley Luxemburgo removed forward Ronaldinho Gaucho from the team's starting line up against Ecuador saying that the soccer star has gained too much weight, according to reports. The late Tuesday announcement came as a surprise and stirred up rumors that Gaucho might leave the team. Earlier this week, Gaucho had been assigned to join Edilson in Brazil's front line against Ecuador in Wednesday's 2002 World Cup qualifying match. Luxemburgo said Gaucho has put on more than 4 kilos (9 pounds) in the past two months, jumping from 73 to 77 kilos (161 to 169 pounds), Estado news agency reported. "He's not giving everything we expected from him," Luxemburgo was quoted as saying. Amoroso will take Gaucho's place, reports said. Late night reports quoted Gremio Coach Antonio Lopes saying that Gaucho was "disoriented with the situation" and was threatened to quit, Estado reported.
