Dhaka, Apr 27 (UNB)- New look Bangladesh national football team leaves here tonight (Thursday night) for Maldives with the hope to retain their regional pride. SAF Games champions Bangladesh will take part in the four-nation Golden Jubilee Cup Football Tournament from May 1 to 10 in Male, the capital city of Maldives. Bangladesh will play the first match against India on May 2, against host Maldives on May 4 and against Sri Lanka on May 7. Team leader Mohammed Yousa Mishu and custodian Nizam Majumdar will, however, proceed to Male on Saturday night due to Nizam’s MA examination. Talking to newsmen this evening at the federation conference room, Captain and premier striker of Bangladesh Alfaz Ahmed expressed his confidence to clinch the championship. “We are now playing a new system under the English coach and I believe the team will perform well in the system to earn good result from the tournament,” he said. A member of the last SAF Games team, Alfaz said the new system helps them to play attacking football with 4-3-3 format as compared to earlier 5-3-2. “The inclusion of seven new players helped the team to have a fighting sprit and also boosted the side,” he said replying to a question about the absence of some experienced booters in the side. “I believe this team is better than last selection that played in the Asia Cup qualifying in Abu Dhabi”, he added. English coach Mark Harison also expressed his confidence about the success of his first assignment. He sounded hopeful of a positive result despite short preparation. Earlier, Badal Roy, joint secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), introduced the captain, team leader, manager, assistant manager and coach.
All matches will be held at the Maldives National Stadium at 4pm.
