Chittagong reached final round of National Football Championship |

Dhaka, May 23 (UNB) – Chittagong DSA became the first team to reach the final round of the 21st Sher-e-Bangla Cup National Football Championship as zonal champions. The 12-team final round involving 10 zonal champions, holders Dhaka University and hosts Noakhali DSA, will begin in the first week of June. The port district team Chittagong clinched the zonal title eliminating Laxmipur DSA by 2-0 goals in the zonal final at the Noakhali Stadium today (Tuesday). Pavel put Chittagong DSA ahead in the 25th minute (1-0) while national colour medio Motiur Munna confirmed the winners’ victory adding one more goal in the 41st minute (2-0). Babu of Chittagong DSA received red card in the match. Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali Abu Hanif witnessed the zonal final and distributed prizes among the players. The other zonal final between Barisal and Bhola DSA was abandoned due to heavy downpour at the Barguna Stadium. The match will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3 pm at the same venue. Besides, Khulna and Pabna DSAs advanced to the zonal finals eliminating their rivals at different venues today (Tuesday). At Bagerhat, Khulna DSA earned an emphatic 11-0 goals victory over Magura DSA with Babu and Rikto making hattricks. Babu scored four goals in the 19th, 42nd, 50th and 66th minutes, Rikto netted three in the 58th, 72nd and 76th minutes, Hasan scored two in the 6th and 37th minutes while Pranotosh netted twice in the 75th and 85th minute. Khulna DSA will take on Chuadanda DSA in the zonal final on Thursday. At Dinajpur, Pabna DSA were declared winners by 2-0 goals against Thakurgaon DSA as per bye-laws as the Thakurgaon DSA did not field the team. Pabna will play the zonal final against Hosts Dinajpur DSA on Thursday at the Dinajpur Stadium. In the day’s other matches, Rajshahi, Nilphamari, Naogaon, Faridpur, Rangpur, Comilla, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Narayanganj DSAs won their respective matches at different venues across the country. Rajshahi defeated Sirajganj by 4-1 goals, Nilphamari beat Natore 3-2 and hosts Naogoan overcame Gaibandha by 1-0 at Naogaon, Faridpur beat Shariatpur 2-1 at Gopalganj, Rangpur defeated Kurigram 3-1 at Dinajpur, Comilla beat Sunamganj 1-0 at Moulvibazar, Kishoreganj beat Mymensingh 1-0 at Jamalpur, Narsingdi beat Manikganj 6-1 and Narayanganj outplayed Brahmanbaria 7-1 at Narsingdi today. Shoeb of Narsingdi and Ritu of Narayanganj made hattricks in today’s matches. The other match of the day between Jessore and Madaripur ended in a goalless draw at Gopalganj Stadium. |
