May 31, 2000 GLASGOW, Scotland, MAY 30 (AP) - Martin O'Neill on Tuesday agreed to become Celtic's new manager, ending his 4 1/2-year tenure at English Premier League team Leicester.
The former Northern Ireland manager led Leicester to eighth place this season as the team also won England's League Cup and qualified for next season's UEFA Cup.
He has turned down offers in the last several years to manage Everton and Leeds in England's top league.
No details on O'Neill's contract were immediately available.
Celtic fired John Barnes in February after a 3-1 loss in the Scottish Cup to division-one club Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The club's director of soccer Kenny Dalglish handled the team on an interim basis. |
