Dhaka, June 11 (UNB) - Holders Dhaka University, Bangladesh Army and Chittagong DSA emerged group champions to reach the semifinals of the 21st Sher-e-Bangla Cup National Football Championship today.
Dhaka University will take on Bangladesh Army in the first semifinal on Tuesday (June 13) while Chittagong DSA will meet hosts Noakhali DSA in the other semis on Wednesday (June 14), both at 3 pm at the Noakhali Shaheed Bhulu Stadium.
The final match will be held on Friday (June 16) at the same venue and same time.
In today’s first match, star-studded Dhaka University clinched the Group D title beating Jessore DSA by 2-0 goals.
Iqbal put the varsity team ahead in the 44th minute while Milan sounded the winners margin adding one more goal in the 61st minute.
Chittagong DSA earned a 2-0 goals victory over Narsingdi DSA in the day’s other match in the afternoon to win the Group C crown.
The port district team took lead in the 9th minute by a Paran’s goal while Manik doubled the margin in the 39th minute.
Earlier in the morning, Rajshahi DSA beat Tangail DSA by 2-1 goals in Group A match, which was abandoned Saturday afternoon due to rain.
Payel and Hanif scored for Rajshahi while Mamun netted the lone goal for Tangail.
After the match, both Bangladesh Army and Rajshahi DSA secured four points each from two group outings but the Army team lifted the Group A title by virtue of better goal difference as they earned a 4-0 goals win over Tangail DSA in the inaugural match.
Bangladesh Army and Rajshahi DSA played to a 2-2 draw in the group match earlier.
