     At last Noakhali achieved National Football title  |

       June 17, 2000   Dhaka
      (UNB)– A golden goal by former national midfielder Arman enabled hosts
      Noakhali to clinch the 21st Sher-e-Bangla Cup National Football
      title beating Bangladesh Army by 2-1 goals at Noakhali yesterday (Friday).   The
      final match between the two teams was locked 1-1 during the stipulated 90
      minutes at the Noakhali Shaheed Bhulu Stadium this afternoon.   Former
      national striker Naquib put the host team ahead in the 54th
      minute while Rafiqul Islam of Army restored parity one minute before the
      end of 90 minutes’ play.    Arman
      scored the match-winning goal for Noakhali in the 25th minute
      of the extra session.    Referee Mansoor Azad had to show nine yellow cards to control the match, cautioning Arman, Naquib, Tito, Dhanu and Alfaz of Noakhali, and Altaf, Rashid Sardar, Majibur Rahman and Islam of Army.    Later,
      Arman was adjudged best player of the final while former national
      skipper-cum-defender Jewel Rana named the best player of the tournament.   Rabiul
      Islam of Pabna received the highest scorer trophy.   State Minister for Youth, Sports & Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader witnessed the day’s final match and later distributed the trophies. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) general secretary Harun-ur Rashid MP was present.  |
