ZURICH, JUNE 6 (AP) - FIFA's ruling executive committee met Tuesday with plans for a harmonized international calendar and the forthcoming choice of a host for the 2006 World Cup host dominating the agenda.
The 24-member executive, which next month will make its choice among South Africa, England, Germany, Brazil and Morocco for the 2006 tournament, was to receive an interim report on preparations for that meeting.
It also was to receive proposals on plans for the international calendar and decide on the next steps to take toward completing it.
FIFA has acknowledged the project will affect the future of the Confederations Cup and the Club World Championship, which it planned to address Tuesday.
In March, the executive committee agreed that the new unified calendar would allow domestic leagues to play whenever they liked, as long as it did not clash with international dates.
League play also would have to observe blocks of time for breaks and training.
FIFA's original proposal of a schedule aligned with the January-to-December calendar irritated some, particularly in Europe and among the so-called "G-14" group of large clubs, which wanted to remain with the traditional season running from August to May.
Also under discussion Tuesday were ticket prices for the 2002 World Cup, to be hosted jointly by Japan and South Korea.
