ZURICH (AP) - Chilean striker Marcelo Salas has been banned for two international matches after being sent off in a World Cup qualifier, FIFA said Tuesday. The ban was imposed by the disciplinary committee for violent conduct, said Andrin Cooper, spokesman for world soccer's governing body. Salas was sent off during Chile's 3-1 defeat of Paraguay on June 29, in which he scored the second Chilean goal. He will now miss his country's matches in Bolivia Wednesday and Venezuela on July 25, but should be available for the home game against Brazil on Aug. 17. Cooper said a red card automatically brought a one-match ban, but the disciplinary committee had the power to extend the ban if the offense was particularly serious.
