Hat trick by Bakhtiar put Arambagh in semis |

Dhaka (UNB) – A brilliant hat trick by Mohammed Bakhtiar guided Arambagh Krira Sangha to move into the semi-final of the 16th Federation Cup Football Tournament drubbing Shantinagar Club by 5-1 goals here yesterday (Tuesday). The Shantinagar Club fort seemed unprotected for sometime in the first half, as their defenders looked somewhat shaky to protect their citadel at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. After losing first match against Badda Jagrani, Arambagh KS made an upset in the curtain raiser tournament beating holders Abahani Limited by 3-1 goals. This was the fifth hattrick in the tournament as earlier his teammate Ritu, Palash of Farashganj, Jony of Muktijoddha Sangsad and Mohammedan skipper Alfaz Ahmed reached the feat.
Captain Mujibar Rahman Ritu opened the floodgate for the winners in the 20th minute when his placing shot kissed the net from Bakhtiar pass while the opposition custodian was advancing. After a minute, Bakhtiar started his fiesta after his placing shot reached the destination from an Apu pass to double the winners’ tally. Shantinagar reduced the margin after three minutes when a nice left-footer of Munna found the net from handshake distance after purchasing from Lavlu in the left side. Striker Bakhtiar completed his second goal and third for the team after seven minutes from a combined attack which finally produced by Nayan after opposition goalie Jahangir again in an advancing position. He reached the feat in the 34th minute with a right-footer from a Ritu pass. Arambagh started their second half campaign with 4-1 lead but they have to wait for the last moment to further raise their tally after squandering some easy chances. Just before the long whistle, Lutfur Rahman Nayan netted the fifth goal for the winners in a goal mouth melee from Bakhtiar push. Substitute Piar Ahmed Prince produced brilliant crosses in the second half but in both the occasions Ritu’s attempts went wide in an open net. Shantinagar Club got two penalties in each half but their shooters miserably failed to convert those. Yellow cards: Bakhtiar (Arambagh), Ramzan and Farooq (Shantinagar).
