MOSCOW (AP) - Hundreds of young Russian soccer fans were kicked out of the western Russian city of Voronezh on Sunday after groups of them went on a rampage and injured four policemen, officials said. Police put some 1,500 fans of Moscow's Spartak soccer team aboard trains and sent them back to the Russian capital, a day after some of them smashed a cafe, broke shop windows and damaged cars. The NTV television network said 200 fans, mostly teen-age boys, were arrested and four policeman injured during the rampage. Some fans acknowledged planning violence regardless of the outcome of the match, NTV reported. Spartak lost to Fakel Voronezh, 1-0. Though Russian soccer fans are usually peaceful, a handful of Moscow soccer teams have attracted followings of violent teen-agers in recent years. |
