Abahoni beat Badda at Football League |

Dhaka (UNB) - Abahani Limited beat Badda Jagarani Sangsad by 2-0 goals in a well-contested match of the NBL Premier Division Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday (Monday). This was successive fifth straight victory for federation cup champions while well-rated Badda Jagarani managed only one win against lowly Dhanmondi Club playing five matches. Saiful Islam and Kennedy scored for the celebrated Dhanmondi outfit at the floodlit stadium. After a hard fought first half, which ended goal less, the popular sky-blue team heaved a sigh of relief when substitute Saiful found the net the ninth minute of the second half at a soppy ground. Striker Saiful, who made his first appearance in the league in absence of national striker Don, put his team ahead placing the ball in the net from handshake distance. He pounced on the ball as Badda Jagarani custodian Shamim cleared a superb low header by Ghanaian Charles Ghansa off an Arman corner. Abahani’s another Ghanaian recruit Kennedy maintained his scoring in every match when the striker doubled the winners’ margin in injury time pushing the ball from danger zone off medio Arman’s pass. The youthful Badda Jagarani marshalled excellently to make attacking forays inside Abahani territory, but failed to take any fruit due to poor finish. Ghansa, the lanky dependable Ghanaian defender of Abahani, lacked concentration in the day’s match losing the ball several times. Captain Iqbal Hossain also looked off-color in the mid-field. Badda Jagarani got a good chance in the 41st minute to take lead in the match, but a nice low header of Nurul Islam from Tanveer cross narrowly missed the target. Abahani also got a half chance in the first half, but Saiful’s miscued shot from a Kennedy throw went wide. Yellow cards: Riad and Nurul Islam (Badda).
