Dhaka
(UNB)- Abahani Limited made a good start with a 4-1 goals win over promote
Victoria Sporting Club in the National Bank Premier Division Football League
here on Saturday. Squandering
about half a dozen chances, the Federation Cup champions dominated 3-0 in
the first half of the match against their lowly opponent at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium. Rukonuzzaman
Kanchan, Zakir Hossain, Mizanur Rahman Dawn and Kennedy scored one each for
the popular Sky-blue team while Manik netted the lone goal for Victoria SC. Abahani’s
frontline striker Dawn, who played for Mohammedan in the last season, foiled
most of the chances in both sessions and finally the tiny forward found the
net in the second half. But
some credit must have gone to Victoria’s goalie Shimul as he shattered
several opposition attempts in the day’s one-sided encounter. Kanchan
put the illustrious Dhanmondi outfit ahead in the 17th minute as
his left-footer kissed the net in a goalmouth melee from a Tito corner. In
the 40th minute, medio Zakir Hossain doubled the winners’ tally
also with a left-footer from a throw of substitute Sentu. Three
minutes later, Abahani’s Ghanaian recruit Kennedy further widened the
margin when his left-foot placing shot reached home from a Dawn pass. National
striker Dawn netted his only goal in an open net in the second half when
Kennedy gave a back pass beating Victoria custodian Shimul. Defender
Nazrul made a brilliant solo attack in the 39th minute of the
second half marshaling the ball from midfield but his shot narrowly missed
the target in an open net. Yellow
