Dhaka
(UNB) – Federation Cup Champions Abahani Limited earned a comfortable 3-0
goals victory over Rahmatganj MFS in the NBL Premier Division Football
League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday (Wednesday). The
sky-yellow Dhanmondi outfit, which overpowered Victoria SC by 4-1 goals in
the first league match on Saturday, yesterday clearly dominated the first
half by 2-0 goals to earn their second successive victory. Ghanaian
striker Kennedy struck twice while national forward Dawn netted the other
goal for the popular soccer force of the country. Dawn
opened the Abahani account in the very 4th minute by a good
header off a right wing cross from overlapping defender Tito (1-0). The
well-built forward Kennedy doubled the margin in the 23rd minute
by a meritorious header from close utilizing a spectacular cross of Kanchan
from left wing (2-0) amid cheers from some 5,000 soccer-crazy fans. Due
to a lapse of Rahmatganj defender Apu, Kennedy further sounded the Abahani
margin in the 75th minute by an easy shot from goalmouth melee
off a left wing pass from veteran medio Zakir (3-0). Abahani
deserved the victory dominating the match for most of the proceedings
against their middle-rated opponent, the Old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj. Kennedy
came close to score a hattrick but Rahmatganj custodian nicely foiled his
free-kick at the cost of a corner in the 40th minute.
Besides,
a good attempt of Kennedy off Tito pass was nicely
saved by opponent defender on way to goal in the 70th
minute while two minutes later he failed to make a header from danger-zone
off a Zakir cross. Abahani
custodian Biplob, now performing a brilliant job for the team, nicely
tackled a good attempt of Tipu in the 43rd minute. Rahmatganj’s
substitute booter Ranjan came close to score in the 51st minute
but he sent the ball wide from a vantage position. Yellow
