WHO has assured of full cooperation in tackling arsenic pollution |

Dhaka, May 20 (UNB) – The World Health Organisation (WHO) has assured of full cooperation in tackling arsenic pollution and other health problems faced by Bangladesh. The assurance was given on Friday to the visiting Health Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim who is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the World Health Assembly being held in Geneva, said a message received here today. Among the WHO officials, Regional Director of South East Asian Regional Office Dr Uton Muchtar Rafei and Executive Director Dr Poonam Kheterpal Singh were present. The minister pointed out the fact that the government was committed to addressing the problems and would appreciate WHO assistance in this regard. The WHO officials provided assurance that this would have their utmost consideration. Earlier, the minister had also discussed the matter with Director General of WHO Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland. Bangladesh Ambassador Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, member of Executive Board of WHO Dr Modasser Ali, who is also currently chairing Committee A, and Director General of Health Services Prof ABM Ahsanullah were also present. |
