Assistance from South Korea in reproductive health service |

Dhaka, May 2 (UNB)- To improve the quality of reproductive health service, Bangladesh is likely to get assistance from South Korea which attained remarkable success in this field and lauded globally. Reproductive Health particularly deals with women health from adolescence to make her fit to become pregnant free from all diseases, able to cope with pregnancy problems and finally ensuring deliver a disease free healthy baby. “Our object is to improve quality of reproductive health care, a key factor for sustainable development of the country. For this reason we are seeking cooperation from Korea and their response is good,” State Minister for Health Prof Dr M Amanullah told newsmen today (Tuesday). He returned home after a five-day visit to Seoul where he attended the closing session of Exchange Forum on quality of care in Reproductive Health.
The international forum was jointly organised by Partners in Population and Development (PPD), Korea International Cooperation Agency in collaboration with the planned Parenthood Federation of Korea (PPFK). It was held April 15-30. The PPD, a new alliance of 16 developing countries that have combined their rich human resource capacity and expertise gained over more than 20 years involvement in reproductive health and family planning program activities to advance two major goals. The goals are: 1) More rapid and effective implementation of the Cairo Programme of Action endorsed by over 180 countries at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994. 2) The expansion of South-South collaboration between and among the developing countries with established track record in the fields of population, family planning and reproductive health care in order to improve the quality and accessibility of reproductive health and family planning programme. Members of the PPD now naming it as Partners, an offshoot of ICPD, are included Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Tunisia, Colombia, Tunisia, Mexico, Male and Zambia. Malaysia and the Philippines have applied for the membership of PPD whose headquarters is in Dhaka since its inception in 1996. Though Korea is non-member country but the PPD (Partners) has option to take cooperation from any countries having success stories in the health related program.
