Dhaka,
May 4 (UNB) – In view of growing number of asthma patients in the country,
a high-powered meeting today (Thursday) decided to set up asthma centres in
all medical college hospitals. Health
and Family Welfare Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim chaired the meeting at
the conference room of Department of Health. The meeting aimed at reviewing
the progress of implementation of health sector programmes and setting
future strategy for the sector. The
minister directed the authorities concerned to complete all unfinished tasks
of the ongoing programmes of the health and population sector within six
months. He
said the government has undertaken modernisation programmes for the major
hospitals in the country so that the patients do not need to go abroad for
diagnosis and treatment. To
ensure proper treatment of the common people, the meeting also decided to
urgently supply and repair medical equipment of the hospitals. It also asked
to complete the process to procure equipment by July. The
meeting emphasised on procuring 125 new ambulances and repairing 55 old ones
from next budget allocation. Directors
of medical colleges and other major hospitals and concerned officials were
present, said an official handout.
