Accused doctors suspended |

Dhaka (UNB) - Three doctors were suspended yesterday for their negligence in the treatment of Julfikar Ali Bhutto MP who died at the National Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases on May 29. Associate Professor Dr AKM Mohibullah and Assistant Professor Dr M Mizanur Rahman of Cardiology Department have been made OSD (officer on special duty) at the Health Directorate. Besides, Medical Officer of the Institute Dr Joyonta Kumar Poddar was suspended. The punitive action was taken by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry after the investigation report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee was approved by the parliament. The suspension order comes into effect immediately, said an official announcement yesterday. The ministry also formed a three-member inquiry committee for further investigation and take necessary action in this regard. The members of the committee are: Joint Secretary of the Ministry Sheikh Zaki Ahmed, Director (Hospital) of the Health Directorate Dr M Mozammel Hauqe and Departmental Head of Cardiology in Dhaka Medical College Hospital Associate Professor Dr Momtaj Hossain. The committee will find out if there was any irregularity or negligence by the doctors at Comfort Clinic where the Jatiya Party MP had a minor operation two days before he died. |
