Dhaka (UNB)- As spread of Dengue fever in the city stirred alarms, the government took some steps to control the scourge and called for people not to panic.

The Health Department took the measures to make people aware about preventives against the killer fever and arranged free treatment of the patients.

“Dengue, a viral fever borne by Aedes variety of mosquito, has similar primary symptoms as of other viral fevers. For lack of timely treatment it may turn into Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome which may cause life risk,” said a release from the Health Department yesterday (Monday).

It requested the authorities of different hospitals in the capital to send the blood of suspected patients to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) at Mohakhali for free test.

Besides, the facilities for diagnosis of dengue are available with the Combined Military Hospital, BIRDEM hospital and some private clinics in the capital.

“There is no effective treatment or curatives to dengue fever, but it can be minimized by controlling the carrier mosquitoes,” the Health Department said.

It said it became urgent to destroy the sources of the carrier mosquito by spraying insecticides on its sources.

The Health Department has already directed the IEDCR to test the blood of the dengue patients free of cost and the concerned section of the Department is conducting an entomological survey in the capital.

Measure has also been taken for imparting training on ‘detection and management of dengue fever’ to the physicians working in different hospitals in the capital.

The health department of Dhaka City Corporation has been requested to take necessary measure to control the carrier mosquitoes.

The Health Department will procure more laboratory reagent through WHO for sample testing of blood of dengue patients.

In its note the department assured the people that there is no cause for concern as there is no chance for alarming outbreak of the disease. “The Health Department is fully aware about the situations and ready to tackle any situations.”
