Prime minister opens new medical college |

Dhaka (UNB)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged doctors to upgrade the quality of treatment to restore trust and confidence of patients in medicare at home. “ We have provided modern treatment facilities… We do not like to see patients going abroad for treatment out of frustration,” she said inaugurating Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College in the city this (Thursday) afternoon. Hasina also sought private initiatives in the health sector for setting up more medical colleges and hospitals to ensure modern medical facilities for all. The Prime Minister said her government had given a lot of incentives for private initiatives in medical sector. Import duties on medical equipment and medicines for complicated diseases, including cancer, were either withdrawn or reduced, she said, adding arrangements have been made for heart surgery and kidney treatment at home. Welcoming the establishment of the Red Crescent Medical College as a timely move under private venture, Hasina hoped that doctors who would come out from this new college with high-standard expertise would devote to the service of the humanity in distress. The new medical college started its journey with 50 students. The Prime Minister increased the number from 30 to 50 this year and assured that the seats would go up to 100 next year. Health Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Dr HBM Iqbal MP, Dhaka University VC Dr AK Azad Chowdhury and Bangladesh Red Crescent chairman Sheikh Kabir Hossain also spoke at the function. Earlier, the Prime Minister formally unveiled the plaque of HFRCMC and went round its campus. |
