MOSCOW, OCT 2 (UNB/AP) - An explosion and fire rocked a Siberian coal mine Monday and rescuers were working to evacuate miners to the surface, emergency officials said. The explosion occurred in a decontamination shaft at the Kirov mine in the town of Leninsk-Kuznetsky, said an official with the Emergency Situations Ministry who spoke on condition of anonymity. The official did not have information about deaths or injuries. Lax safety precautions and obsolete equipment at Russian mines have led to scores of accidents in the past few years. Dozens of miners have been killed. |
